Honors English 9

Students in Honors English 9 will explore the choices that people make as they navigate the conflicting push and pull of parents, society, and peers as they form their identities.   Students will develop the strategies and habits that will help them become more proficient at reading literary and non-literary genres. Using the texts provided by both literature and from their own lives, they will become more skilled at writing literature and essays: expository essays, literature dependant essays, and personal memoirs. By creating and maintaining an English Language Arts centered writing folder over the course of the semester, they will document their evolving skills and identities as readers, writers, and learners. In addition to engaging in individual and group learning, students will further develop the vocabulary and language connections that will allow them to demonstrate learning in and beyond English Language Arts. Students will study texts in depth and be expected to demonstrate high level analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
